Mr. Johan Allegaert (60), currently Executive Vice President for Consumer Services, has been appointed Chief Executive on an interim basis until a permanent appointment is made.
“The Board of Directors is saddened by developments impacting on Mr. Pluss’ health conditions and wishes him the speediest recovery”, said Mr. Georges Muller, Chairman of the Board. “We are thankful for Werner’s contributions over his many years with our organization, and for his leadership as Chief Executive over the last few months. The Board is now undertaking a search for a successor, both internally and externally, and will rely on the experience and skills of Mr. Johan Allegaert to bridge the gap. The selection process is expected to be completed by the end of this year. During this time, both the Vice-Chairman, Sergio Marchionne, and I will actively assist Johan in his new role”
Johan Allegaert is Belgian and joined SGS in 1974 in Taiwan. He has held a number of positions within the Group in Europe, South America and for 19 years in the Far East. He is fluent in Chinese and has lived between Hong Kong , China and Taiwan for the last 13 years. Since his appointment as global head of Consumer Testing Services, he has managed to compile a team of international young professionals who are quickly moving SGS into a leadership position.
Mr. Frankie Ng’s appointment as Johan’s successor after his retirement, originally scheduled for January 1, 2005, is effective immediately.
Mr. Chris Kirk, currently Executive Vice President of Minerals Services will assume additional responsibilities for Oil, Gas and Chemicals Services until a successor is appointed.
